MV Åsøy was owned by Oddvar Berge AS (AS is equivalent to Ltd.). Oddvar Berge is the father of Magne and Øivind Berge. The vessel was named after their mother Åse. Magne and Øivind Berge started their maritime career onboard MV Åsøy which resulted in their increased interest for cargo vessels. The vessel was 550 dwt and 41 m long. She traded along the norwegian coast with timber and general cargo. Chartering Broker was Selboe Shipping AS. Kjetil Rimolsrønning, owner of Rimship AS, was employed at Selboe Shipping AS at that time.
